"Nicer than most dorms, but you don’t really have control of A/C so always hot even in the winter. Annoying to pay extra for a dorm with Ac if you can’t adjust it."

"The previous review from the 2013 poster is wildly out of date. Bathrooms and common areas have been renovated since then, and international students haven’t lived in Newman in years."

"The room is great but the AC never really worked. And the building always had leaks but besides that I loved the location and the rooms where bigger"

"New Residence Hall East is a nice building. It’s pretty new as far as dorms go and the rooms are a pretty good size. However, I found that suite style makes it way harder to meet new people and make friends. In addition, none of the lounges have TV’s to congregate around. The location is pretty central. If it’s important to you to have more privacy, nicer finishes, and air conditioning, this dorm is a good choice. If you’re looking to make lots of new friends, I would not recommend this dorm."

"Great dorm with a great location. Can’t get closer to the academic side and good proximity to the dining halls on the residential side. Cleanliness was not an issue and the bathrooms are some of the nicest out of any dorms. Only about 30 people on each half of the floors so it’s easy to get to know people. No air conditioning but it’s rarely an issue if you have two box fans."

"The best thing about East AJ was the community. The Honors Residential College lives in the dorm, and it is a conglomeration of all ages of students (freshmen-grad students) with many great bonding opportunities. Everyone is friendly. The rooms itself a re a bit small and the a/c system is a little confusing at first. Half of the hall is communal bathrooms and the other half has private baths. There is a communal kitchen and rec rooms connecting to west aj, and don’t forget about the in-house movie theater and gym. Very close to D2, West End, Cassell, and Lane, although fairly distant from academic side."

"I liked having an all female dorm! The bathrooms were cleaned often and each one did have a shower room with locking door if curtains made you nervous. Ratio of bathrooms to residents was great and the rooms were all relatively spacious for Virginia Tech and had a sink. As far as location my dorm had a perfect view of Burrus and was located conveniently in the middle of campus. There was only one kitchen for all floors to share so I would recommend bringing a mini fridge/microwave."

"Clean, social, and unbeatable location! Not having an AC wouldn't be a dealbreaker since it only mattered for the first few weeks of school. Really great kitchen and study lounges, and really clean bathrooms!"

"Harper is a 4-floor suite style dorm with the Mozaiko Living Learning Program on the 3rd and 4th floors and the Cranwell International Center on the 1st floor. Each suite comes with a bathroom to be shared among the suitemates (4-6 people, with 2-3 doubles in each suite) and a common room. The bathrooms are not cleaned by housing, however they come with 2 toilets, 2 sinks, and 2 showers each. The common rooms come with a low table, an upholstered couch and chair, and a wooden rocking chair. There are modern kitchens on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors attached to the big lounge. The majority of the students who live in Harper are a part of Mozaiko, however non LLP members are usually international students, athletes, and upperclassmen. Harper is known to be a quiet residence hall with little social interaction, though there are many cultural events and regular activities held throughout the year. The building is notably further away than other residence halls from both dining halls and the academic side of campus, but West End is right next door and D2 isn't even a 2 minute walk away. If you're looking for a quiet, air conditioned dorm and don't mind a little extra walking to get where you're going or paying a bit more for the luxury, then Harper is the dorm for you."

"There’s three triple non- suite rooms in PY and I somehow ended up in one (originally told I was going to be in temp housing but later they emailed me saying I was gonna be in the triple) it was amazing- between the three of us we had our own bathroom that had a bathtub and our room was massive- put our beds Against the wall and had the center for seating and tv- only downside was it was a little harder to socialize cuz everyone kinda stayed within their suite"
