I lived in Gum my first year and as a second year RSL. Gum is great as a first year. It has large common rooms for each hall on the first and third sections. Gummere is not for everyone, but it is an excellent compromise (in my opinion) between all the things you look for in a dorm. Facilities, cleanliness of common rooms- not outstanding. But it's close to everywhere you'd want to be- Campus Center, KINSC, etc.
