In corridor-style housing, rooms typically accommodate two residents who share a bathroom cleaned daily with the floor. Each room is furnished with two beds, dressers, desks, and closets, with a public lounge available for socializing. Air conditioning is only available in bedrooms on the fourth floor of Roosevelt Community. Suite-style housing accommodates between four to six residents who share a bathroom cleaned weekly. Each suite includes a private living room area with two sofas and a table. Rooms in suite-style housing vary in size, with air conditioning provided in Living Learning Community suites.

West Apartments at Stony Brook University offer a range of living options with single rooms and essential kitchen amenities, including a microwave, fridge, oven, and stovetop, providing plenty of space for grocery storage. The living room is spacious, ideal for socializing with friends, and the suite accommodates six people with two large bathrooms, reducing any bathroom-related conflicts. However, living in the older apartments such as A, B, C, and D can be challenging due to frequent maintenance issues, like malfunctioning air conditioners and gas stoves, and occasional pest problems. Regular work orders may be necessary, but these issues appear less frequent in the newer apartments (I-K). While the location is a bit inconvenient, being far from the main campus, the dorms are cost-effective, especially if you enjoy cooking and wish to avoid meal plans. Common areas are cleaned weekly by staff, but residents are responsible for their bedrooms, and sharing with multiple roommates might require an adjustment period.
