Lived here in a 3 person high rise unit 2013-14 school year and friends lived in 2014-15 in 2 person low rise units so im well versed here. The units are indeed in nees of an update they are old but not awful. Had no major problems. They annoyance in my unit was the fridge blocked out kitchen light and needed a ruler to switch it on sometimes. The roominess was much appreciated compared to some of the other dorms although the ac doesnt really reach into the bedroom if yours is seperated. The main complaint everyone says is the distance. Its not god awful and there is the bus that run right in front of it. Id rather be here than most of the other dorms. Also enjoyed making my own meals.
Living in an apartment is nice because there is a lot more room, but you also have to deal with more roommates. Hilltop is outdated and has many issues. We have had to put in multiple work orders for plumbing, electrical, etc. We have hot water for about 3 minutes in the shower. Most appliances, including heating, do not work and there is a lot of damage. Work orders can take days to weeks to be fixed. Hilltop is also far away from everything and a long walk to campus. Also have heard many people having issues with the office. Definitely not the best place to live.
IMO Hilltop has the best living arrangements at its price point for on campus housing. Room: Quite spacious, both room and living room. Has a kitchen, A/C, semi adjustable heating, curtains can keep the room pitch black. Building: Laundry room per building. Decent soundproofing. Bit of a climb if you live on the upper floors though. Bathroom: Each unit has a bathroom with shower and bath. Location: Similar proximity to campus as other res halls, but only one dining hall at the bottom of the hill. Ford is pretty good though. Other: If you wanted to drink alcohol, I have never had an RA enter my apartment unit here. Just don't be loud and nobody will ever check.
Lived here fresh and sophomore years (2017-2019). they are actual apartments. kitchenette, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. bedroom is shared by 2 or 3 people tho. plenty of shelf and closet space. you can get away with doing pretty much anything in these apartments too.
