Stetson West Reviews

Northeastern University

Reviews Summary

Stetson West, despite its age, offers a mix of positives and negatives according to student reviews. The dorm rooms are described as small, lacking in natural light, and sometimes reminiscent of a prison cell, but they provide ample opportunities to socialize with fellow freshmen. The communal bathrooms, while generally kept clean, are a shared space. Residents appreciate the convenience of having a dining hall on-site, as well as nearby laundry facilities and study areas. The lack of air conditioning can be a drawback, with some mentioning the need to open windows in winter or endure heat in the early fall. The building's location is praised for its proximity to campus amenities, making it easy to get to classes and dining options. The elevator's unreliability and occasional noise disturbances on the floors are noted downsides. Overall, Stetson West offers a classic college dorm experience, with a variety of communal spaces for socializing and studying, despite some shortcomings in room size and facilities.

Ridiculously overpriced shoebox. Strongly don't recommend, but I guess compared to the rest of the Freshman housing it's about what you'd expect.

Living here during Covid so rooms are limited to 2 people. Have a kitchen and private bathroom in the “economy” quad to split with only one roommate 😍

Although the building is old and the rooms were small, it was still pretty comfortable as a double. The bathrooms were always pretty clean and well maintained. The only issue was with the temperature, sometimes the heater would be so hot in the winter that we'd have to leave the windows open. On the opposite end it was really hot in the beginning of the semester and since there is no AC, fans were a MUST. The building itself definitely is not the best since it is pretty old, but the room itself is perfectly fine and the location is great!!

Honestly a lot better than I was expecting. Plenty of room and storage, and had a big window and nice view in our room. The bathrooms were almost always clean and never had to wait for a shower. I liked how you could control your heating in the winter, and even though there’s no ac for the summer, just put a box fan in the window and you’ll be fine. Downsides - meal plan required, but most freshman dorms are, only one water fountain down in the lobby, and the walls and hallways do have a slight cold/industrial feel.

Overall, the rooms are slightly dingy and the communal bathrooms were not always clean (people are just messy). Nonetheless, it is very convenient that there is a dining hall within the building (but Stwest isn't always open) and another dining hall like 2 minutes away. Most classes are also within a 5-minute walk too. Definitely not the best first-year housing, but still decent.

The rooms in Stetson West are very small and industrial looking (to say the least). For example, I had multiple exposed pipes in my room and cinder block walls. The beds are very close together, so you're basically living on top of your roommate. My room was right near the stairs and trash room, so I didn't get that much quiet and had to deal with the smell. Additionally, there's no AC, so it gets hot the first few weeks (especially if you're on the side that gets the afternoon sun). That said, the bathrooms are kept very clean (I think they're cleaned daily) and there are a lot of common areas/study spaces. Also, the dining hall is right there in the building, which is very convenient. The laundry room is right in the basement and was neve...

I think its about the best you can get as a freshman. Yes the dorms are quite small but having all other freshman around you opens up a lot of opportunity to make friends. The bathrooms were kept very clean even if they were communal and the location is very nice for getting to class and some food. Pretty much standard dorm food, sometimes good, mostly meh. Amelia's is great though. Laundry was convenient and being near most of your classmates makes group projects very easy.

Rooms are super small and kind of look like a prison cell when you turn the lights off lol. The bathroom was generally kept pretty clean. It has no ac so it can get pretty hot. In the winter, they crank the heat so you might have to open a window. My floor was loud as hell, so if you're looking for quiet, you won't find it here. The location is the best though

Swest wasn’t a bad dorm for a freshman. The rooms are kinda small and I hardly got any natural sunlight, but it wasn’t terrible. Only during first week there were a few bugs roaming around usually in the bathrooms, but after that I never saw them again. The bathrooms were always cleaned everyday and there was never a wait to use the shower or toilets. The hall itself lacks color and looks gloomy. The dining hall isn’t terrible, but when they cook fish you can smell it from a mile away. The common areas are a nice spot to watch football or soccer games or just hang out in, but sometimes people are out there way too late and are too loud when you’re trying to sleep. Swest is close to the gym on campus and Speare where the packages come in so ...
