1019 Commonwealth Avenue Reviews

Boston University

Reviews Summary

1019 Commonwealth Avenue, often referred to as "1019", is typically favored by sophomores and juniors thanks to its suite-style floor plan that offers relative spaciousness and privacy. Housing students in three double rooms per suite, it provides a wonderful arrangement for a group of friends looking to live together, foster a social atmosphere, and experience off-campus vibe while still within school’s jurisdiction. Each suite adorns a common room, providing an ideal place for unifying activities. It's also appreciated for its relative soundproof walls and bathrooms with ample counter space, which, while shared amongst six residents, require regular cleaning to maintain its appeal. However, some students have reported that the lofted beds can make the rooms feel cramped. The dormitory offers air conditioning, though it’s limited and often noisy, and an on-site laundry facility. It's within walking distance of various food spots, the fitness/rec center, and student activities. However, the dorm's location on the western edge of campus means it's quite a distance from most classes, requiring public transit or a long walk, and a short trek to mail packages or pick up food from the dining hall. Despite this, the tranquil demeanor of the security guards and the availability of a printer and study rooms in the building adds to the overall resident satisfaction, solidifying 1019 as a preferred option among sophomore housing.

Definitely a good place to live sophomore year or even for underclassmen if you can get it. If you dont mind its one bathroom for average 6 people, 3 doubles in a suite so if you want a single you are out of luck with 1019. Overall pretty nice place but very far west so if you have classes say in Questrom thats rough.

I lived there as an RA during the 2017-2018 school year. The Res Life crew is great and I looked after my kids to the best of my abilities. It's relatively easy to manage and the students are mostly sophomores. I think the suite-style floor plan gives students a lot of freedom to socialize. If you already have a group of people that you'd like to live together and socialize on a daily basis, this is probably the place to go. Great spot to live as a sophomore.

One of the nicer housing options at BU; in my opinion just a step or two below StuVi. You get a spacious common room that you share with your 5 fellow suitemates, who you get super close with. The doubles are considerably more spacious than most dorms, and there is (limited) air conditioning. Very close food options are West Dining Hall, Buick Street Market, and Late Nite West, and also close to Agganis and FitRec for student life. Security guards are way more chill than Warren and West, and are always down to have conversations. One drawback is the bathroom, which is also shared with 5 people, so it can get dirty quickly; we had to clean nearly every weekend. Another is the distance- it's far from just about every class being on the wester...

The room feels cramped. The lofted beds are so close to the ceiling, and theres barely enough room to bend over stand underneath. Expect to hit your head constantly. The bathroom was fine. The ceiling randomly starting leaking even though we weren’t on the top floor. The AC is loud. Location is nice, and its convenient to have a printer in-building and the study rooms were nice with a view if you could find a spot. Slightly annoying having to go to towers for mail packages but wasn’t a big deal. Overall its a very normal dorm experience but honestly a double in warren seems better.

This is like a sophmore right of passage if you will. You live with 5-6 of your buds, living room, and your own bathroom. 1019 is basically off campus so it does give it a different vibe. If you're a sophmore here, you'll probably be the one hosting pregames for your friends. If you live here with your friends, it's a great time

Loved living here as a sophomore, but would definitely recommend going in with friends. Living with 5 other people in a suite was a bit cramped, but I really enjoyed the social atmosphere it created. West campus has appeals like being close to allston, fitrec, etc. but is far from classes.

The common room had no windows and the location is inconvenient compared to other housing options, but the room was sizable and walls were relatively soundproof.

Far away from most things, but if you're an athlete / like to be close to the Fit Rec, 1019 is not bad. Suites are nice.

Living here as Junior, I found that this dorm was a central location to many things. Star market & super 88 was just around the corner. Nickerson field was about a block down. The Bars were about a 2 blocks down. BU maintains this dorm very well, since it was built relatively not long ago. I lived with 3 other suitemates in a single. We had our own kitchen, and I enjoyed the privacy of our own space while also sharing a modern and roomy space with my suitemates. I would highly recommend anyone to live in this dorm, especially if you are an upperclassman and have already established your friend group. The dorm is insulated very well with central AC and ON-site laundry. What more can you ask for in a dorm? Even the T-Anthonys is across the st...

Best sophomore dorm in west. Much more privacy than the three freshman dorms in west but more of a community feel than stuvi.
