Kilachand hall is a great dorm for first year students. It isn’t as good at Stuvi 1 or 2, but it’s much better than west or Warren. The rooms are well sized and clean. The only real downside is the location, as it is really far from west campus.
Being an honors student, I was lucky to live in KHC my first year. It's such a better option compared to what first year students usually get. However, the rooms are getting older and things like lights, blinds, faucets are starting to break. This is also a stark contrast to the bottom floor, which is swanky and recently renovated. I will say though that residents are fortunate to have AC (for like 1 month before they shut it off and then not at all in the spring even when it gets hot), have close access to the dining hall (less than 60 seconds to get there), have a quiet study room on the 9th floor and have a tight-knit community with floor-mates (even though it has a reputation for being dead, I've witnessed parties of 30+ people take pla...
Lived in a double here Junior year in 2015 - at the end of the hall far from elevators. Super quiet which I loved. Building itself is older but the lounge was super new and a great place to study downstairs - plus the upstairs study area is HUGEEE. Legit would spend a lot of hours up there late at night with friends doing group work. They even have the silent room too. As far as flooring and shape of the room - it's an older building so it's not the BEST but it's not Danielsen. Private bathroom for just two ppl is awesome too. Plus, I had most of my classes at Questrom and CAS - so I never had to go far. Baystate is legit in front of the building which was awesome. Location can't be beat. I would say it's probably the most well-located ...
The Kilachand experience really changes based on your specific room. I was placed in what seemed to be a forced Triple, and it felt like living in a shoe box. However, the facilities in the building were amazing, with AC, in-house Laundry, and two beautiful lounges. It is also really close to a lot on campus, I never had to walk far. Overall, Kilachand is great if you can get a good room layout.
I lived in a double as a freshman (2017-2018 school year). The double was part of a suite- so we were connected to a triple and we shared a bathroom. Honestly, you might get lucky and end up with a great room (some of the doubles my friends lived in were HUGE but ours was tiny). So my only complaint is that room size isn’t standardized but you pay the same amount anyway. Other than that, has AC, nice study lounges, laundry room off of the lobby, communal kitchen off of the lobby, and a pretty good location across from Bay State dining hall (but I felt it was a little far from classes for me, it’s on the far end of East campus). But you pay more for all of those things!
Kilachand is great for an underclassman dorm. Private baths (shared between a double, quad, or five person suite), AC, and proximity to bay state dining hall are all a plus. The only thing keeping this dorm from being excellent is its age; rooms, hallways, and upstairs study area are in need of updating. Not as new as Myles in this regard but a better dorm than Towers and Warren in my opinion.
I had a double with only one window. My roommate took that side of the room, meaning I had basically no light on my side. My plants died and it was hard to do makeup in the morning with no natural light. The double had significantly less space per person than the triple. We also only had one closet at first, but we asked for a wardrobe and got one. Hard to set up the room so you get privacy. Honestly a good room. I just had a difficult roommate which tainted my experience. It was clean and had its own bathroom. The community was nice but quiet.
Pretty lit. AC, private bathroom, quiet building with spacious common rooms. Downsides are that you either walk through your suitemates' room to get to the bathroom, or your suitemates walk through your room. Also depending on your room, you may have 3-4 windows or just one, making the room very dark. Another downside is Kilachand is sort of far from everything, but not too bad. My legs got buff. Kitchen has specific hours. Ninth floor is sort of grungy. Even though I complain, it was a very nice place to stay. I arranged the furniture so I had my own little nook with privacy.
Honestly great, pretty sure its bu’s only dorm (at least for freshmen) with AC? so thats really good. building is super old and the carpets in the rooms are pretty dusty, and the facilities in the bathrooms are pretty ancient as well. overall wouldnt have picked another dorm but it depends on your priorities. biggest dorm ever too!
Lived there freshman and sophomore year. The rooms range in quality. I've heard horror stories of walls that sweat and bathrooms that haven't been cleaned since the Kennedy administration and you can definitely tell it was built in 1920 but compared to some other places on campus it's not half bad. Rooms that look out over the river are amazing. Maybe the best view you'll ever have for that price. Could do with some updates in the rooms and the ninth floor but otherwise it's pretty good
